In a time long ago, I worked under the incomparable Rocky Maselli, who nudged me in the right direction for what is now my career. I guess in that sense you could say the big guy was my professional mentor! Both Rocky's family and I ended up coming from Eugene, Oregon to the Bay Area, and now Rocky is the Executive Chef at A16. I love both A16 locations, and last night met with a friend & colleague for dinner and was blown away by the incredible prix-fixe menu they offer Sunday-Thursday. Just $25 for a starter (last night was a great salad), your choice of ANY of the pizzas or pastas on the menu, and a dessert (last night was a chocolate panna cotta with candied hazelnuts and sea salt). What a steal! #dbsobsessed
There is no classy way to say this: I love Sugar Free Red Bull. It is embarrassing. It is tacky. It is gross. So, I am constantly trying to find other ways to feed by need for cold caffeine in the morning. Sure, there is iced coffee, and I love it! But, I am not ALWAYS in a coffee kind of mood, and I don't always have iced coffee on hand. Icing hot coffee is of course an option, but I have a real aversion to watery coffee. Enter, David's Tea. I have posted about this Canadian company before, and I am sure I will again. They have an incredible assortment of teas, and I cannot get enough of them. I feel somewhat goopy saying this, but they have honestly made me feel better in so many ways! Whether it is the tea I use to go to sleep, or the tea I use to stave off a cold, they have something for (almost) everything. David's Tea just came out with The Buzz, which is their most caffeinated tea, and my new morning go-to: Typically I would not think of iced tea as an alternative to my beloved SFRB (we shall not name it again), but this tea does in fact give a sufficient boost, even to the fiendiest of fiends. I am also loving their Grand Cru Matcha. The best of the best when it comes to matcha powder, and an excellent alternative to coffee. I got myself set up with their matcha kit, and making a matcha latte is easier than one would think, based on all the gear that comes with it.
It's been a while since I gave a book update! Here is the quick and dirty on what I have recently read. Make sure to read the greats and avoids the trash. What would you do without me?!
Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel
LOVED this book. For anyone who loves books about a dystopian future, but is over the YA genre, I recommend this book. Another book with multiple character narratives, but they all tie together is really interesting ways. You don't know just how they are all related until the very end, and it is worth making it that far.
