As promised, I am working with a number of small businesses/makers who are creating amazing and stunning things, to share the best of the best with all of you! I am so thrilled to bring you this next gem, PineNeedle Stitches. I came across this shop on Etsy when I was looking for interesting items to add to the gallery wall in my new and improved home office (more to come on that later).
I reached out to Michelle, the owner, and after finding out more about the business, I knew I had to share it with all of you! Here is the background on how Michelle decided to get going with her shop (#girlboss):
"I am a high school art teacher who is very passionate about art. Last year I decided to pursue my dream of opening an Etsy shop to sell my artwork. One thing in particular I have wanted to sell over the years are paintings on repurposed slices of wood from Christmas tree farms from surrounding areas where I live in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Everything I create is inspired by my surroundings. I mostly paint mountain scenes and woodland creatures!
I also decided to sell hand stitched books after making my own journal last year. I took a bookmaking class in college and when I thought of the idea of making my own journal, I found notes from my class and "re-taught" myself how to make books using a Coptic stitch binding. It is an awesome technique that allows the user to open the book to lay flat so that the binding doesn't stick up in the way of your hand and keep you from filling in your entire page while writing or drawing.
So now my business, PineNeedle Stitches, is all about providing art inspired by the mountains and the many woodland creatures that live around me and creating durable, functional and cute books to write or draw in!"
Now, not all of you know this, but my family was in the business of growing and selling Christmas trees, when I was growing up. So, when I heard about that little tidbit from Michelle, I knew I had to have one of those pieces, and I am so thrilled with the custom piece she did for me!
Growing up, my dad always signed his letters to me with 'Make me proud,' and I always tried to do so! I love and respect my Dad more than anyone in the world, so I have always wanted to make him proud. Not always a successful endeavor, but hey, we all have our moments ;) This simple reminder in my cards throughout the years has always stuck with me as a reminder to do my best and to work hard. As I mentioned, I had checked out Michelle's shop with it in mind that I wanted to get items for the gallery wall in my home office. What better place to have a motivational reminder than on the office wall?
I placed this custom order with Michelle and she was able to complete it in almost no time. I am certainly adding her shop to my list of spots to pick up holiday and birthday gifts. PineNeedle Stitches also sells many gorgeous hand-bound journals, like the one pictured below. I think these are such wonderful gifts to give, as they allow people to use them as they best see fit in their lives. Personally, I plan to use mine as a camping journal, keeping track of the places I go and the things I see on my upcoming camping trips! Given the background of Michelle's business and her inspiration for these notebooks, I cannot think of a better fit for these beautiful books! MUCH more to come on that whole camping thing, in 2017.
How could you not love this journal? Perfect as a daily journal, prayer journal or anything in-between. From the craft paper and twine wrapping, to the thick and high-quality paper, everything about these just feels special. It may sound cheesy, but it's true, so just go with me on this one...
